Nora Herrera: Be passionate and committed

Started as: Engineering Clerk & Locksmith

Currently: Corporate Director of Engineering at Omni Hotels and Resorts

When Nora Herrera went to her first job fair in downtown Corpus Christi in 1984, a human resources director told her “I have the perfect job for you.” Little did she know, this would be the start of her incredible journey in the hospitality industry.

From day one, Nora knew engineering would be a fitting career choice for her. “I’ve always been very curious,” she says. “I’ve always liked to figure things out, so I figured it would be the perfect role for me.”

To garner more experience, Nora decided to enroll in an 18-month program for air conditioning, refrigeration, HVAC, and electrical at a local community college. This training equipped her with the necessary tools to flourish in the hospitality industry.

Twenty-eight years later, Nora climbed up the ladder to become the corporate director of engineering at Omni Hotels – an international luxury hotel company which operates over 50 properties.

“Be passionate and committed. Be willing to put the time in. As long as you do the right thing and try your best, you’re going to be just fine.”

Nora loves how open the hospitality is to all types of people and how this has allowed her to meet and develop relationships with incredible individuals. “You get to work alongside some incredible people,” she says. “You form some great friendships along the way.”
