David Starr: Enjoying the island lifestyle

Started as: Director of Engineering

Currently: Corporate Director of Engineering

David Starr’s hospitality career began more than 25 years ago and 1,200 miles to the south of his current Florida home.

Following a 10-year career as a facilities engineer at the Kennedy Space Center, David decided it was time to live the island lifestyle. He and his wife took sabbaticals from their professional stateside careers and moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where David took a position at the utility plant that generated power for the Ritz-Carlton on St. Thomas.

In the following years, David and his wife lived and worked at hotels in the Bahamas, Nevis, and Anguilla, where David was vital in the infrastructure construction and development of the Viceroy Resort

For David, working in hospitality is about more than just having a career. It is about having the ability to reward yourself and your family.

“I describe hospitality as one of the best opportunities I ever had,” David explains. “It enabled us to go and do the things we wanted to do.”
